Alternative-Rock Pop-Rock band formed in the mid-'90s in Orlando, Florida USA, by singer+songwriter Rob Thomas, guitarists Adam Gaynor and Kyle Cook, bassist Brian Yale and drummer Paul Doucette.

Matchbox 20 signed a recording contract with Lava Records who released their debut album, "Yourself Or Someone Like You", in October 1996; the first single, "Long Day", quickly climbed the Active Rock chart to peak at #8; the following year was released a second single cut, "Push", which hit #4 on the same chart and topped The Modern Rock Tracks; the third single off of album, "3 A.M.", cracked the top 3 on both the Billboard's Rock charts and helped propel the band's debut CD to #5 on The Billboard Top 200 chart. Two more singles, "Back 2 Good" which rose to #24 on The Billboard Hot 100 and the Modern Rock top 20 hit "Real World" helped pump album sales to an impressive 12 x platinum. The quintet became popular also in Canada where "Yourself Or Someone Like You" hit #11 on Top Albums chart and in Australia where the record went eight times platinum.

In 1999 frontman Rob Thomas collaborated with legendary Carlos Santana on a track called "Smooth", which earned three Grammys.
After three and a half years from the release of their debut LP, Matchbox 20 came back togheter and released their long awaited second album, "Mad Season"; the record shot quickly up the charts to a #3 peak in The U.S. and Canada; it also included three smash singles: "Bent" peaked at #1 on The Billboard Hot 100 and entered the top 20 of The Modern Rock chart, "If You're Gone" hit #5 and #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 and Adult Contemporary charts, respectively; the title-track reached the #48 position on The Billboard Hot 100; nevertheless, after nearly two years of solid touring in support of the album, it stalled at sales of 4 million copies.
In November of 2002, the group returned with "More Than You Think You Are", which rose to #6 on The Billboard Top 200 list; the first single, "Disease", debuted at #29 on The Billboard Hot 100, "Bright Lights" reached #23 and "Unwell" rose to #5 spot on the same chart.

In April 2005 Rob Thomas, released his debut solo album, "...Something To Be"; the record entered The Billboard 200 chart at #1, it was the first time a male artist from a Rock or Pop group achieved such a feat in the Billboard chart's 50-year history.

Matchbox 20's highly anticipated and long awaited greatest hits album, "Exile On Mainstream", hits shelves on October 2, 2007. This 2-disc album has 6 brand new songs including the smash single "How Far We've Come".
