Ryan Adams is a singer songwriter from the US, and previous member of bands Whiskeytown and The Cardinals.

Musical career: In his career beginnings, Ryan Adams was part several bands including Blank Label, Ass, The Lazy Stars and The Patty Duke Syndrome. He formed Whiskeytown in 1994 which saw three album releases: 'Faithless Street', 'Strangers Almanac' and 'Pneumonia'. He then embarked on a solo career, releasing critically successful debut album 'Heartbreaker' in 2000; the album included the song 'In My Time of Need' which Joan Baez later covered. His breakthrough was second album 'Gold' the following year, though he rose to fame through the tragedy of the 911 terrorist attacks after releasing a video for his song 'New York New York' shortly before the bombings.

In 2002, his label decided to release a mixtape compilation of various unreleased songs entitled 'Demolition'. He produced Jesse Malin's debut album with whom he formed the side-project The Finger and released two EPs. In 2004, he was hospitalised with a broken wrist after falling off stage during his Love Is Hell tour, with several dates subsequently cancelled. The following year, he joined The Cardinals and released the albums 'Cold Roses' and 'Jacksonville City Nights'. The latter featured Norah Jones duet 'Dear John'. He also released another solo album entitled '29' and performed at the Hurricane Katrina benefit show. Ryan Adams performed and recorded with the Grateful Dead's Phil Lesh after meeting in 2005. He produced Willie Nelson's 2006 album 'Songbird' and unveiled his ninth album the following year, 'Easy Tiger'. In 2008, The Cardinals released 'Cardinology', though Adams quit the band the following year blaming hearing loss and general unfulfilment with the music industry. He released the books 'Infinity Blues' and 'Hello Sunshine'. In 2009, he released music under his metal names Werewolph and Sleazy Handshake. He released his metal album 'Orion' through his own label PAX AM. 2010 saw the release of his fifth Cardinals album 'Cardinals III/IV' through PAX AM. The following year he released solo record 'Ashes & Fire'. He was nominated for a Brit award and a Grammy in 2012. In 2013, he released his '7 Minutes in Heaven' EP with new band Pornography.
